The Next Step
Adulting Skills Program
Small-group Occupational Therapy support for young people building independence
The Next Step is a small-group Occupational Therapy program for young people aged 17 to 23 who are building independence, confidence, routines and everyday life skills.
This program is designed for young people who may feel overwhelmed by daily responsibilities, struggle with organisation or motivation, experience burnout or sensory overwhelm, or feel unsure where to start when it comes to “adulting”.
The program is delivered in 6-week focus blocks, with flexible entry points across the year. Young people can join one focus area or continue through multiple blocks over time, depending on their goals.
Is this program right for you or your young person?
The Next Step may suit young people who:
Feel overwhelmed by daily tasks or expectations
Struggle with routines, motivation, organisation or task initiation
Experience burnout, shutdown, avoidance or sensory overwhelm
Want to build independence but feel stuck
Need support with home, study, work, money, food, transport or life admin
Benefit from small, structured and supportive environments
How the program works
The Next Step is designed as a flexible pathway, not a one-size-fits-all group.
Each focus block runs for 6 weeks and supports a specific area of independence. Participants complete a 1:1 intake session before starting, so we can understand their goals, strengths, support needs and suitability for the group.
Participants can:
Join one focus block
Continue through multiple focus blocks
Enter at a point that best matches their goals
Build skills gradually over time
Groups are intentionally small, with a maximum of 4 participants, allowing support to be individualised while still offering the benefits of shared learning.
Fees and funding
NDIS self-managed and plan-managed accepted
Private paying available
Small-group pricing shared across participants
Individual intake required before starting
